The Final Day
Michael "Woz" Wozniak, time, 09.23.2000

I can't describe the feeling of loss knowing that this is the last day.  Rex Chaney, Jack Van Voast and I rode in from the hotel and we met John Chan who rode us in across the salt.  The skies were just turning light as we crossed the salt to the pit area.  We arrived at the BreadTruck and were the first there and lit the camp stove for heat as the temperatures plummeted during the night.  We all watched the brilliant sunrise and soon afterward arrived Aaron Wilson and Ralph.  We were waiting for the track to be declared clear and as soon as it was Richard Nallin was back on the bike.  It was cold and windy.  The first pass wasn't successful as Richard pulled off after the first quarter mile.  The tank vent had been pinched and fuel couldn't get to the engine. A quick repair put the bike on the track again however the speed wasn't near what was needed to break our already existing record.  A top level decision was made to put an end to the wonderful week of racing Team Elves has been enjoying since Tuesday.

I will remember always the spectacular location of the Bonneville Speedway in Utah.  I'll remember being on the same raceway that legends have set records on for years.  I'll be happy to know that I was a small part of a large team of dedicated people that put six records in the books on a wonderful Buell motorcycle.

I'm looking forward to the 2001 Homecoming so I can once again meet with some if not all of the members of Team Elves.  I'll proudly wear my t-shirt and my hat and my Team Elves patch is going to be a prominent item on my favorite jacket.  If you haven't yet been to the support store on the Team Elves website I urge you to do so and help support the team for the remainder of this year and to keep ready to defend our recently set records  There are several qualified teams out there who will want to capture the records we set this week so this is an ongoing campaign.

This is the final day.  I've met new friends, and have spent quality time with old friends and I am no longer a "sale virgin" according to "Landspeed" Louise Noeth.  I will be back.  I'm sure of it.  I guess I'm also a victim of "Salt Fever" which is what Landspeed Louise warned me I would get.

I'm so very happy that Team Elves was so successful.  I'm so sad that this adventure is coming to a close but I have the knowledge that I'll be back to keep me going.

If you haven't been here it should go on your list of things to do.  If you've been here in the past you know what I'm talking about.  How about we all talk about it again at the 2001 Homecoming in East Troy in June 2001.  Start your Homecoming fund now, save for the airfare, the motorcycle shipping or schedule your vacation for the time off as soon as you can.  It will be another great adventure that will be worth more than any investment.

Until then, ride safe

Woz....
